MIREILLE BERTHON (PARIS, FRANCE, 6 AUGUST, 1889 – PARIS, FRANCE, 16 JANUARY, 1955)

 

 

 

 

She received her education at the Conservatoire of Paris by Louise Grandjean, Hettich and A. Saléza. Then she studied the Italian repertoire under Angelica Pandolfini in Milan. In 1917 she made her debut at the Grand Opéra in Paris in the title part of the opera ‘’Thaïs’’ of J. Massenet. In 1918 she sang at the Opéra de Rouen in the premiere of the opera ‘’Ninon de Lenclos’’ of Mainguenant. In 1920 she had a huge success at the Teatro Colón of Buenos Aires, where she appeared as Manon, Thaïs and Marguerite in ‘’Faust’’. She also made guest appearances in Rio de Janeiro and Montevideo. Then she came back to France, sang at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo in ‘’La damnation de Faust’’. At Vichy she appeared in ‘’La Fille de Madame Angot’’ of Lecocq. In 1922 she became a member of the Grand Opéra in Paris, where she performed 15 years. In 1937 she changed to the Opéra-Comique, where she was highly appreciated. She made guest appearances also in Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Egypt, Italy and North Africa. She died suddenly.
