ODETTE CARLYLE (BORDEAUX, 1880 – ?)
In the 1907–08 season, she achieved her first success at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, performing as Venus in Wagner’s Tannhäuser and as Elena in Boito’s Mefistofele. In 1908, she made her debut at the Grand Opéra in Paris, again as Venus in Tannhäuser, and remained a member of the company until 1910. While there, she sang in the 1909 premiere of Savart’s opera La Forêt.
From 1910 to 1920, she performed at the opera houses of Lyon and Bordeaux and appeared as a guest artist in other prominent opera theaters throughout the French provinces. She was renowned for her interpretations of roles such as Venus, Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Valentine in Les Huguénots, and Sélika in Meyerbeer’s L’Africaine.
