She studied singing at the Conservatoire de Paris under Dubulle. The manager of the Grand Opéra Paris, Pierre Gailhard, engaged her shortly before his withdrawal from the management of the house. She made her debut as Woglinde in Götterdämmerung in 1908. After several successful years in Paris, she joined the Chicago Oper

a, where she impressed critics with her powerful acting and her use of meaningful gestures to convey Tosca’s emotions.
