EDMOND RAMBAUD (AGEN, 22 JANUARY, 1887 – PARIS, 16 OCTOBER, 1960)

 

 

 

 

He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he won a prize in 1913. In 1917, he made his debut at the Grand Opéra in Paris as Faust in Gounod’s Faust. On March 11, 1921, he appeared in the premiere of Gabriel Dupont’s opera Antar, and on December 22, 1924, in L’Arlequin by Max d’Olonne. On March 21, 1935, he performed in Reynaldo Hahn’s Le Marchand de Venise. Earlier, on June 6, 1920, he sang in the premiere of Vincent d’Indy’s Légende de Saint-Christophe, followed by La Naissance de la Lyre by Albert Roussel on July 30, 1925, and Alfred Bruneau’s Virginie on January 6, 1931. In 1918, he participated in the première of Rameau’s baroque opera Castor et Pollux.

He achieved great success in roles such as Tamino in The Magic Flute and David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. In 1946, he sang in the important premiere of Méhul’s Joseph, a long-forgotten opera. In 1939, he made his debut at the Opéra-Comique in Paris. After his retirement, he worked as a vocal pedagogue.
