GEORGES RÉGIS

 

 

 

He made his debut in 1898 in Marseille and continued to perform there during the 1899-1900 season. In 1899, he appeared at the Théâtre-Lyrique in Paris in Weber’s Oberon. During the 1902-1903 season, he performed as a guest in Bordeaux and took on comprimario roles at the Opéra-Comique, including Léopold in La Juive, Ruodi in Guillaume Tell, and Jonas in Le Prophète. He returned to Marseille before moving on to perform in New Orleans during the 1905-1906 season.

He made his debut at the Paris Opéra in 1909 and spent most of the following season at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 1912, at the Hammerstein Opera House in London, he sang the role of Almaviva in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. By the mid-1920s, he had returned to the Opéra, where he primarily took on comprimario roles but continued to perform parts such as Ruodi and participated in the premiere of Roussel’s La Naissance de la Lyre in 1925.
