GUY CAZENAVE (HASPARREN (PAYS BASQUE), 21 DECEMBER 1883 –ALGIERS, 24 DECEMBER 1937)

He made his debut at the Grand Opéra in Aida (1912). He later appeared there in Samson et Dalila. Three years later, at the same theatre, he sang in Henry VIII and Ascanio by Saint-Saëns, as well as Hérodiade by Massenet. At the Opéra-Comique, he performed in Tosca and Pagliacci (1928). He also sang at the theatres of Marseilles, Nice, and Lyons. After retiring from the stage, he devoted himself to teaching and to his business in Algiers. There were—and still are—rumours that he was killed, but this is not true: he died after surgery.
