PETER LORDMANN (KÖLN, GERMANY, MARCH 22, 1874 – REGENSBURG, GERMANY, JANUARY, 27, 1955)

 

 

 

 

He began his career in 1897 as a concert singer, performing in Düsseldorf and Köln. That same year, he made his operatic debut at the Hoftheater in Kassel. From 1898 to 1902, he was engaged by the Theater of Graz, followed by an engagement at the Hoftheater in Karlsruhe from 1902 to 1904. In the 1904-1905 season, he appeared at the Opernhaus in Köln, and from 1905 to 1909, he performed at the Volksoper in Wien, where he sang in the Viennese premiere of G. Puccini’s Tosca.

His repertoire at the Volksoper included Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Daland in Der fliegende Holländer, King Heinrich in Lohengrin, Stadinger in Der Waffenschmied by Lortzing, and Saint Bris in Les Huguenots.

From 1909 to 1912, he was part of the Dresden Hofoper ensemble, and from 1912 to 1916, he was engaged at the Deutschen Opernhaus in Berlin. During his time there, he sang in the 1914 premiere of E. Humperdinck’s Die Marketenderin.

After a brief stint as a soldier in World War I, he resumed his career. From 1917 to 1919, he was a soloist at the Stadttheater in Bremen. From 1919 to 1921, he was a member of the Staatstheater in Wiesbaden, and in the 1923-1924 season, he served as both singer and director at the Stadttheater in Hagen (Westfalen).

He also made guest appearances, performing at the Hofoper in Wien in 1903 and the Opernhaus in Leipzig in 1911.

His extensive stage repertoire included roles such as Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Falstaff in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor, Baculus in Der Wildschütz, Bombardon in Das goldene Kreuz by Ignaz Brüll, Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Rocco in Fidelio, Giacomo in Fra Diavolo, and the Hermit in Der Freischütz.
