AENNE HINDERMANN (MINDEN, 10. 2. 1872 – MENDEN, 17. 11. 1955)

 

 

 

 

She began her stage career in 1895 at the Aachen City Theater, where she remained until 1898. From 1898 to 1901 she was engaged at the Magdeburg City Theater, and from 1901 to 1912 she appeared frequently as a guest at major houses, including the Berlin Court Opera, the Dresden Court Opera (1900), the Schwerin Court Theater (1904), and the Leipzig Opera House (1900). In Amsterdam she was heard as Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail.

Her repertoire centered on coloratura roles such as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Marie in Donizetti’s La fille du régiment, Gilda in Rigoletto, Violetta in La Traviata, and Oscar in Verdi’s Un ballo in maschera. She also appeared as Queen Marguerite and the page Urbain in Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots, Philine in Thomas’s Mignon, Rose Friquet in Maillart’s Les dragons de Villars, Elvira in Auber’s La muette de Portici, and Frau Fluth in Nicolai’s Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor. Beyond these lighter parts, she successfully undertook more demanding roles, notably Chrysothemis in Richard Strauss’s Elektra.

In 1907 she took part in the premiere of Eugen d’Albert’s opera Tragaldabas in Hamburg. From 1904 onward she was married to the celebrated actor Paul Wegener (1874–1948), who later achieved fame as a film pioneer. During her Hamburg years she made two series of recordings: the first for G&T (1904) and the second for Odeon (1907).
