HEDWIG JUNGKURTH (DARMSTADT, 22. 06. 1899 – ?)

 

 

 

 

She made her debut in 1921 at the Stuttgart State Opera, where she sang soubrette roles until 1925. From 1925 to 1930, she was engaged at the Berlin State Opera. In 1931, she toured North America with the German Opera Company, achieving great success as Nuri in d’Albert’s Tiefland, partnered by Johanna Gadski. She also appeared as Gutrune in Götterdämmerung, the Waldvogel in Siegfried, and one of the Rhinemaidens in The Ring of the Nibelung.

During the 1930s, she pursued a career as a concert soprano and frequently performed on German radio. Throughout World War II, she gave concerts for German soldiers while also continuing to appear in concert halls. From 1941 to 1942, she toured Holland.

Her stage repertoire also included Marzelline in Fidelio, Blondchen in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Ännchen in Der Freischütz, and Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème.
