KÄTHE HERWIG (BERLIN, GERMANY, 9 DECEMBER, 1891 – BERLIN, GERMANY, 28 OCTOBER, 1953)
She was trained by Ernst Grenzebach in Berlin and made her debut in 1914 at the Deutsches Opernhaus Berlin as the Shepherd Boy in Tannhäuser. From 1919 to 1934 she was engaged as the leading coloratura soprano at the Cologne Opera, where she enjoyed great popularity. Both there and in guest appearances on major German stages, she performed an extensive repertoire covering coloratura as well as lyric soprano roles. She was also successful as a concert singer. After retiring from the stage, she worked as a teacher and later lived in Berlin.
