MARGARETHE HEYNE-FRANKE (CHEMNITZ, 21 MAY, 1892 – DRESDEN, 19 FEBRUARY, 1980)
She made her debut in Nuremberg in 1917 as Zerbinetta in R. Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos. From 1918 to 1921, she was a member of the State Theater in Gera (Thuringia). The renowned conductor Fritz Busch heard her in Leipzig and engaged her at the Stuttgart State Opera, where she sang from 1921 to 1924. From 1924 to 1928, she was a member of the Dresden State Opera. Beginning in 1928, she held guest contracts with the opera houses of Munich, Leipzig, and Frankfurt am Main, as well as with the National Theater of Mannheim, the Kroll Opera, and the Berlin State Opera.
On stage, her repertoire ranged from the most demanding coloratura roles to dramatic parts such as Aida and Venus in Tannhäuser. In addition to her stage career, she was an acclaimed concert singer, performing under such prominent conductors as Richard Strauss, Hans Pfitzner, Fritz Busch, and Hermann Abendroth. In 1925, she made a series of acoustic recordings for the Polydor label.
