CARL GÜNTHER (OTTENSEN, 22 NOVEMBER, 1885 – HAMBURG, 9 SEPTEMBER, 1958)
He made his debut in 1912 at the Opera House in Hamburg as Florestan in Fidelio and remained a member of this opera house until the end of his stage career. On November 2, 1920, he appeared in the premiere of Clemens von Franckenstein’s opera Li-Tai-Pe (Des Kaisers Dichter) and, on October 7, 1927, in the premiere of Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s opera Das Wunder der Heliane. In 1926, he achieved great success in Hamburg with his performance in Verdi’s Don Carlo.
He also made guest appearances at the Städtische Oper in Berlin, the Vienna State Opera in 1924 and 1927, and the Opera House in The Hague in 1926, where he performed as Max in Der Freischütz. During World War II, he continued to perform on stage. Following his retirement, he worked as a vocal pedagogue in Hamburg.
