Description

ERICH SCHRÖTER

Schröter was a concert singer from Stettin in Eastern Pomerania (present-day Szczecin, Poland) who was active during the early twentieth century. He was also a member of the Stettiner Sänger, a male vocal ensemble from the region.

At least one early Anker record label from 1906 identifies him as Tenor am Stadttheater Rostock, indicating that he was engaged at the Rostock Municipal Theatre at that time. From around 1906 until the outbreak of the First World War, he became one of the most prolific recording artists in Germany, making hundreds of recordings for nearly every major German record company. His repertoire consisted chiefly of sentimental songs and operetta selections, although his earliest recordings also included a number of opera arias, revealing a pleasant, well-produced lyrical tenor voice.

A considerable number of these recordings were issued under pseudonyms, including E. Schröder, E. Schrader, E. Berger, Willi Heise, Erich Born (used primarily for his operatic recordings), Franz Born, Walter Kurt, and Georg Raden, as well as possibly several others.
