FRANZ XAVER BATTISTI (BOZEN, DECEMBER 21, 1865 – BOZEN, AUGUST 22, 1933)
He was the son of a well-known businessman. Initially, he studied chemistry at the Technical College of Graz before pursuing a career in music. From 1889 to 1893, he studied singing under Viktor von Rokitansky in Vienna and also continued his studies in Graz.
He made his debut in 1893 at the Municipal Theatre of Trier as Lyonel in Martha by Friedrich von Flotow. In 1894, he appeared at the Municipal Theatre of Zurich, and in the 1895-96 season, he performed in Düsseldorf. From 1896 to 1897, he was engaged at the Municipal Theatre of Bremen, where he reprised his debut role of Lyonel and also sang Radamès in Aida.
In the 1897-1898 season, Battisti joined the Berlin West Theatre. He later moved to Milan to complete his studies under Maestro Alberto Selva. In 1900, he began his tenure at the Court Theatre of Hannover, where he remained until 1914.
His guest performances included appearances at the Berlin Court Opera, the Court Theatres of Kassel and Brunswick, and the opera houses of Frankfurt a. M., Leipzig, and Cologne.
After retiring from the stage in 1914, Battisti continued to be active in the concert hall and worked as a pedagogue in Hannover until 1925.
