FRIEDRICH FRITZ ZOHSEL (STUTTGART, 24 JANUARY, 1879 – BERLIN, 12 MARCH, 1952)

 

 

 

 

He studied singing under Jacques Stückgold in Berlin and later with the renowned heroic tenor Heinrich Knote. He made his debut at the Court Theatre of Detmold in 1908. In the 1909-1910 season, he performed at the Municipal Theatre of Ulm, followed by engagements at the Municipal Theatre of Basel (1910-1911), the Municipal Theatre of Katowice (1911-1912), and the Municipal Theatre of Görlitz (1912-1913).

In 1914, he was conscripted into the First World War and was captured by Russian forces. He resumed his career in 1919, performing first at the Dresden State Opera (1919-1922), then at the Municipal Theatre of Chemnitz (1922-1927), where he appeared in the premiere of Wilhelm Kienzl’s opera Hassan der Schwärmer in 1925.

From 1927 to 1930, he was active at the Opera House of Leipzig, where he took part in the premiere of Hans Hermann Wetzler’s Die baskische Venus in 1928. He later performed in Berlin and during the 1933-1934 season, he sang at the Municipal Theatre in Dortmund, and from 1934 to 1935 at the Municipal Theatre in Augsburg. He subsequently returned to Berlin, where he later managed an artist’s agency. Throughout his career, he also appeared as a guest at the Berlin State Opera, Dresden, and Vienna (1927).
