Initially working as a bank employee, he later pursued singing, studying under E. Mauck and others. He began his career in 1922 as a baritone at the Stadttheater in Plauen (Saxony). During the 1924-1926 seasons, he sang at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim. Following a voice change and retraining as a tenor under Laurenz Hofer, he debuted anew in 1926 at the Stadttheater in Elberfeld, performing Radamès in Verdi’s Aida.

His tenor repertoire spanned diverse roles, including Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Florestan in Fidelio, Adolar in Weber’s Euryanthe, Lohengrin, Max in Der Freischütz, Don José in Carmen, Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon, Hoffmann in Les contes d’Hoffmann, Julien in Charpentier’s Louise, the Duke in Rigoletto, Cavaradossi in Tosca, and Pelléas in Pelléas et Mélisande.

After World War II, he transitioned to operetta performances and made appearances in a few German sound films. Upon retiring from the stage, he worked as a vocal pedagogue in Berlin, where he spent his later years.
