JARO DWORSKY (KÖNIGSBERG, 1891 – ? 1971)

His father, Jaroslaw Dworsky (1853–1935), worked for many years as an opera singer at the Opera House in Königsberg and was engaged by the Metropolitan Opera in New York for the 1885-86 season. Dušan initially studied singing under his father, after first studying medicine at Königsberg University. He later became a pupil of Ernst Grenzebach and Oscar Daniel in Berlin. Dušan made his debut in the 1916-17 season at the Berlin Deutsche Oper. In the 1921-22 season, he was engaged by the Opera House in Königsberg. In 1922, he joined the Berlin Urban Opera and was a member of the Berlin State Opera during the 1924-26 and 1927-30 seasons. He was also engaged by the Dresden State Opera in the 1926-27 season. He made guest appearances in Austria, Holland, and Spain. Dušan continued to sing in Berlin until 1944 and worked as a singing teacher there until 1953.
