Description
OTTO BRIESEMEISTER (ARNSWALDE, 18 MAY, 1866 – BERLIN, 16 JUNE, 1910)
Born to an elementary teacher, he initially pursued medical studies at the universities of Berlin, Würzburg, and Leipzig, becoming a medical officer. Later, he shifted his focus to music and studied singing under Wiedemann in Leipzig. His operatic debut came in 1893 at the Court Theatre of Dessau, where he performed as Manrico in Verdi’s Il Trovatore.
He married actress Sidonie Hönig, and the couple lived in Berlin, where he balanced his operatic career with work as a specialist treating cervical conditions. Tragically, in 1910, while caring for his daughter during her illness with diphtheria, he contracted the disease himself and succumbed to it shortly thereafter.
