PAUL STIEBER-WALTER (WANDSBEK, HAMBURG, 1890 – ? 1973)

 

 

 

 

He initially studied singing under tenor Hanns Nietan in Dessau and later continued his vocal training with the renowned baritone Harry de Garmo in Wiesbaden. In 1915, he made his debut at the Stadttheater in Mainz, where he remained until 1918.

In 1921, he performed in Chemnitz in the premiere of the opera Der Sonnenstürmer, composed by his brother, Hans Stieber. In 1927, he appeared at the Opernhaus in Hannover in the premiere of Joseph Gustav Mraczek’s opera Herrn Dürers Bild.

From 1973, he resided in Marktl, Germany. His stage repertoire included roles such as Belmonte in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Nureddin in Der Barbier von Bagdad by Peter Cornelius, Fritz in Der ferne Klang and roles in Die Gezeichneten, both by Franz Schreker, Mephisto in Doktor Faust by Ferruccio Busoni, the Duke in Rigoletto, Alfredo in La Traviata, and Klas in Enoch Arden by Ottmar Gerster.
