GEORG KNIESTÄDT (BERLIN, GERMANY, 20 JUNE, 1895 – BERLIN, GERMANY, 4 JUNE, 1949)
He studied at the ” Stern’sches Conservatory. ” At age 17 (in 1912) he was a violinist in the orchestra of the Berliner Hofoper, later Staatsoper, and continued for more than 30 years in this orchestra. From 1924 he was concertmaster Between 1932-1944 Kniestädt had his own string quartet. He was also leader of the Kammer Musik-Vereinigung the Staatsoper. He also conducted, recording for Clangor, including Mozart’s Overture The Marriage of Figaro (Clangor MD 145), Brahms Hungarian Dance no. 5 + 6 (M 1644), the Jubilee Overture by Weber and Beethoven’s Pastoral. Due to his activities during the war for National Socialist organizations, he was not allowed to perform for the public after the war.
