ANTONIO ABUSSI (MOSCOW, RUSSIA, 12 OCTOBER 1909 – ? 1984)

He was born into a family with a double bass player of Neapolitan origin and a young woman from that city. In 1905, his family moved from Naples to Russia in search of better opportunities. They worked in a small orchestra and also participated in opera performances, occasionally even being invited to perform before the Imperial Court. After the collapse of the Tsarist regime, they returned to Naples. There, Abussi completed his training under Franco Tufari at the Conservatory “San Pietro a Majella.” He then moved to the “Verdi” Conservatory in Milan, where he studied with Caesar Ferraresi and Giulio Franzetti. In Naples, Princess Maria Josè di Savoia awarded him a significant scholarship that allowed him to continue his studies in Basel with Adolf Busch. During the same period, he also studied with Yehudi Menuhin.
