MIHÀLY TAKÁCS (TAKÁTS) (NAGYBANYA, 13 SEPTEMBER, 1861 – KESZTHELY, 20 AUGUST, 1913)
He first studied theology, then moved to Budapest to study singing under the pedagogue Richard Pauly. In 1883, he made his stage debut at the National Opera in Budapest, and until his death, he remained a celebrated member of the company. In 1902, he sang in the Budapest premiere of the opera Götz von Berlichingen by Karl Goldmark. In 1903, he performed the role of Scarpia in the Budapest première of Puccini’s Tosca. In 1893, he sang the role of Biterolf in Tannhäuser at the Bayreuth Festival. His repertoire included roles in operas by Mozart, Meyerbeer, Wagner, Rossini, and Verdi.
