Description
ARNOLD FÖLDESY (BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, 20 DECEMBER, 1882 — BUDAPEST, HUNGARY, 29 MAY, 1940)
He was born into a family of violinist. He studied at the Dr. Hoch’s Konservatorium under Hugo Becker, then continued his eduction at the Königlichen Akademischen Hochschule für Musik in Berlin. Here his teacher was Robert Hausmann. His teachers included also David Popper, whose works he recorded for different gramophone companies. Since 1903 he made successful guest appearances in Europe (with pianist Ernő Fodor). In 1905 he performed in Australia (with soprano Elizabeth Parkina and flute player John Amadio). Since 1907 he appeared also in USA. From 1908 to 1915 he taught at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. The same time, until 1912 he was a soloist of the National Opera House in Budapest. From 1915 to 1933 he lived and worked in Germany. Until 1924 he was the first cellist of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
