LÁSZLÓ SZENTGYÖRGYI (BUDAPEST, HUNGARY 11. 02. 1910 – TUCUMÁN, ARGENTINA 01. 20. 1973)

 

 

 

 

He was born in Budapest, Hungary, on February 11, 1910. He began his violin studies at age 4 with his father Ignacio. At the age of 10, he entered the renowned Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Hungary as a student of Oszkár Studer. When he was only 14 years old he entered the class of the famous teacher Jenő Hubay. On November 21, 1924 he performed the Pathetic Concerto in F sharp Minor by Ernst accompanied by the Budapest Symphony Orchestra conducted by M ° Ernst von Dohnányi. In 1926 he received the diploma of Artist. Then he became a soloist of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra. In 1930, his great performance and brilliant technique were widely recognized in Paris, at the orchestral concert organized by Jenő Hubay. In 1931 he was appointed first concertmaster of the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held until 1944. In 1940 he was appointed professor of violin at the Budapest Academy of Music. In 1946 he began to perform as the first concertmaster at the Stadttheater in Freiburg (Germany), apart from having the same position in the symphony orchestra of the city. He was concertmaster of the Symphony Orchestra of Innsbruck (Austria) between the 1947-1948 years. He starred in countless concerts in cities of Romania, Germany, Hungary, Austria and Czechoslovakia. In November 1948 he was hired by the National University of Tucumán as a senior violin teacher at the Experimental School of Music, being appointed the following year the first concertmaster of the flamboyant Symphony Orchestra of the UNT. From this moment he settled in Tucumán – Argentina and made important musical tours through the cities of Jujuy, Santiago del Estero, Mendoza, Catamarca, Cordoba, San Juan, Corrientes and Tucumán. He also integrated the String Quartet of the UNT. He died in Tucumán on January 20, 1973.
