Description
ISIDORO FAGOAGA (VERA, NAVARRA, SPAIN, 1895 – SAN SEBASTIAN, SPAIN, 1976)
He studied singing with the pedagogue Luis Iribarne before continuing his education in Italy. There, he studied at the Conservatory of Parma under M. Silva. He made his debut in 1920 at the Teatro Grande in Madrid as Samson in Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila. His first appearance in Italy was likely at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, where he performed the role of Siegmund in Wagner’s Die Walküre. He quickly rose to prominence as Italy’s leading Wagnerian tenor and was regarded as the successor to the great Italian tenor Giuseppe Borgatti. After the Second World War, he emigrated to Buenos Aires, where he was active as a music writer and served as a correspondent for the Argentine newspaper La Prensa.
