EMANUELE BUCALO (NOVARA DI SICILIA, 1866 – NOVARA DI SICILIA, 1941)
He is considered one of the greatest baritones of his time. He studied in Palermo and then in Milan, honing his craft under the guidance of prominent vocal teachers. His career, which lasted from approximately 1894 to 1910, saw him perform at major opera houses across Europe and South America. He appeared at the Teatro Politeama Argentino in Buenos Aires, the Teatro Regio in Parma, La Scala in Milan, La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro Bellini in Catania, the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Messina, and the Teatro Municipale in Alessandria. He also performed in Montevideo and São Paulo, earning great acclaim for his roles.
He was especially appreciated in Buenos Aires for his portrayal of Rigoletto, a role that became one of his most renowned. After retiring from the stage, he returned to his hometown of Novara, where he passed away on October 23, 1941, surrounded by the affection of his family, friends, and admirers. His legacy as a distinguished baritone continues to be celebrated.
