Description

FERRUCCIO CORRADETTI (SAN SEVERINO, ITALY, 21 FEBRUARY, 1867 – NEW YORK, USA, 19 JUNE, 1939)

He initially worked as a journalist, but after discovering his vocal talent, he studied with Giuseppe Faini. From 1892 onward, he enjoyed a successful opera career at prominent Italian theaters. In 1898, he sang in Holland with the Italian Opera House, where he performed as Marcello in the Dutch premiere of Puccini’s La Bohème. At the same performance, his wife, soprano Bice Adami, debuted as Mimì.

His career took him across Europe and South America. He performed in London, Paris, Berlin (in 1905 at the West Theatre as Malatesta), Amsterdam, Buenos Aires (at the Teatro de la Ópera in 1906 and the Teatro Coliseo in 1907 as Belcore in L’elisir d’amore and Figaro in Il barbiere di Siviglia), Montevideo, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid, and Barcelona. In 1901, he sang at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome in one of six premieres of Mascagni’s opera Le Maschere. He returned to the Teatro Costanzi in 1905 and 1911 to perform in Fedora, La Bohème, La fanciulla del West, and Linda di Chamounix.

In 1904, at the Teatro Lirico in Milan, he participated in the premieres of two operas that won the Sonzogno competition: Manuel Menendez by Lorenzo Filiati (May 15, 1904) and La Cabrera by Gabriel Dupont (May 16, 1904), where he sang alongside Gemma Bellincioni. He took on the title role in the premiere of Leoncavallo’s Malbruk in Rome in 1910 and appeared in the premiere of V. Tommasini’s Uguale Fortuna at the Teatro Costanzi in 1913.

In 1914, he moved to North America, where he performed first in Boston and later in New York. Over time, he shifted his focus toward teaching and became active as a music critic and journalist. He was married to soprano Bice Adami (1875-1969), and their daughter, Iris Adami-Corradetti (1903-1998), also became a renowned singer and pedagogue.
