GIUSEPPE NOTO (TORRE DEL GRECO, 1883 – MILAN, 1979)

Although he had already appeared at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples as Amonasro in Aida in 1915, he attracted significant attention when he sang in 1922 at La Scala in Milan in Il Tabarro. In 1921, he achieved success at the Teatro Regio of Turin as Kurwenal in Tristan und Isolde. In 1919, he performed at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, and in 1929, he returned there as Telramund in Lohengrin. That same year, he sang the roles of Telramund and Gérard in Andrea Chénier at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo.

In 1926, he made guest appearances at Covent Garden, partnering with the famous prima donna Maria Jeritza in I gioielli della Madonna by Wolf-Ferrari, and as Jago in Otello. In 1939, he participated in the premiere of the opera Il malato immaginario by J. Napoli at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. He spent his final years at the Casa di Riposo per Musicisti, the retirement home founded by Verdi, in Milan.
