LUIGI NICOLETTI KORMANN (ROME, 1875 – BARCELONA, 1919)

 

 

 

 

He was a pupil of the renowned bass Romano Nannetti in Rome and made his debut in 1889 at the Teatro Sociale in Crema as Oroveso in Norma. In 1898, he appeared at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa as Geronte in Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. He enjoyed a successful career in Italian theaters, performing in notable venues such as the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires in 1908, where he sang Alberico in Wagner’s Sigfrido. He also appeared at the Teatro Regio in Parma in 1903 as Rodolfo in La Sonnambula, at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna in 1913 as Archibaldo in Montemezzi’s Amore dei tre Re, and at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice in 1915 as Don Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

His career flourished particularly in Spain and South America. In 1916, he performed at the Teatro Zarzuela in Madrid in A. Thomas’ Amleto and Il Barbiere di Siviglia. In 1918, he appeared at the Teatro Reale in Madrid as Colline in La Bohème. He passed away in Barcelona, where he was engaged in the local opera season, due to a sudden illness. He was the brother of the well-known baritone Francesco Nicoletti.
