AMEDEO BALDOVINO (ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT, FEBRUARY 5, 1916 – TRIESTE, ITALY, MAY 13, 1998)

 

 

 

 

He studied, in particular, with Camillo Oblaka (1927-1930), then studied composition in Bologna under the guidance of Cesare Nordio (1937-1940). He made his debut as a soloist in 1930 in Milan, in the same year he gave a series of concerts in Italy and abroad (including Berlin). World fame came after the end of World War II, but gradually Baldovino began to pay more attention to chamber music, therefore he is known primarily as a member of two notable Italian chamber ensembles: in 1957 he was one of the founders of the Italian string trio (with Franco Gulli and Bruno Juranna ), and since 1962, replacing Libero Lana, performed with the Trieste Trio until its disbandment in 1995. At the same time, Baldovino also gave concerts as a soloist with a wide repertoire from Johann Sebastian Bach to contemporary authors. Among left their records – Bach suites for solo cello concerts of Boccherini, Haydn, Schumann, Dvorak, Elgar, Concerto for Violin, Cello and Orchestra Brahms (with Gioconda De Vito), “Chaconne, Intermezzo and Adagio” by Dallapiccola (fragments of this recording sound in the composition “Emircal” by Mario Peragallo dedicated to the memory of the composer) and others. He played the Stradivarius (“Mara”, 1711). Since 1969 he taught at the Santa Cecilia National Academy of Music in Rome. Dallapiccola’s work ” Sicut umbra … ” is dedicated to the memory of Baldovino’s daughter, Barbara, who died in her youth.
