ARMIDA PARSI-PETTINELLA (GALLESE, NEAR ROME, 30 AUGUST, 1868 – MILAN, 9 JANUARY, 1949)

 

 

 

 

She made her debut in 1893 and enjoyed a successful career at the major Italian opera houses. She frequently performed at La Scala, where in 1895 she appeared as Anna Bolena in Henri VIII by C. Saint-Saëns. The following year, she returned to La Scala, this time as Dalila in Samson et Dalila by the same composer. She also performed as Dalila in 1902 at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa. The singer, who was married to the conductor Pettinella, made guest appearances in London, Paris, Madrid, and Buenos Aires. In 1896, she made a guest appearance at the Academy of Music in New York, where she sang the role of Madelon in the American première of Andrea Chénier by U. Giordano. Further guest appearances included Monte Carlo as Eboli in G. Verdi’s Don Carlo (1906) and at the Teatro Reale in Madrid in Amleto by A. Thomas (1908). She spent her later years at the Casa di Riposo Giuseppe Verdi in Milan.
