Description
TINA ALASIA (TURIN, 1876 – TURIN, 1948)
She began her formal music education in 1897 at the Liceo Musicale in Turin, where she trained under Annetta Casaloni and L. Perigozzo, both renowned teachers of their time. Alasia made her operatic debut in 1901 at the Teatro Regio in Torino, performing the role of Signora Dufresne in Ruggero Leoncavallo’s Zazà. This debut marked the start of a promising career.
In 1905, she performed in the premiere of Mosè, an opera by G. Orefice, at the Teatro Verdi in Padova. Two years later, in 1907, she took part in the Italian premiere of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, showcasing her versatility in Russian repertoire.
Alasia gained particular recognition abroad, especially in Turkey, where her talent caught the attention of Sultan Abdul-Hamid II, who honored her with a kiss on the hand—an extraordinary mark of esteem.
Later in her career, she returned to her hometown, Turin, where she worked as a vocal pedagogue, passing on her knowledge to the next generation of singers.
