Description
DORA DOMAR (FLORENCE, 1888 – ?)
Her parents were from Spain. She worked as a young girl in a fashion studio and received her first singing lessons from the pedagogue Rosina Liccioli in Florence. Her teacher introduced her to the famous tenor Alessandro Bonci, who recognized her talent. After the death of her parents, Bonci took responsibility for her care and arranged for further vocal education with the pedagogues Augusto Dell’Amore, Bettinelli, and Cottone. In 1907, she made her debut at the Teatro del Valdarno near Florence in Puccini’s La Bohème. In 1909, she performed at La Scala, taking on the role of Amina in Bellini’s La Sonnambula. In the following years, she performed in various Italian provincial theaters until 1912, after which she transitioned entirely to operetta. Her brother was the tenor Giuseppe Domar.
