ELISA GATTI PORCINAI

 

 

 

From the 1920s to the 1930s, she had a successful career as a lyric and dramatic soprano on the prominent provincial opera stages of Italy. In 1926, she appeared at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa as Suzel in Mascagni’s L’amico Fritz alongside Tino Folgar, and in 1931, at the same theatre, she performed as Maddalena in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier. She then retired from the stage for five years, returning in 1936 to sing Maddalena again at the Teatro del Giglio in Lucca. In 1939, she reprised the same role at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa. After her marriage, she also appeared under the name Elisa Gatti Porcinai.
