ELVIRA MAGLIULO (ROME, ITALY, 1880 – ?)

 

 

 

 

She received her education at the Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella in Naples with Beniamino Carelli. In 1902, she was already at La Scala, Milan, where she appeared as Berta in Weber’s Euryanthe. On April 30, 1904, she sang at the Teatro Vittorio Emanuele in Turin in the premiere of Franco Alfano’s opera Risurrezione. At the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, she achieved great success in 1907, performing as Brünnhilde in Die Walküre and Aida, and she also took part in the premiere of Stefano Donaudy’s opera Sperduti nel Buio, partnering with Fiorello Giraud. In 1909, she appeared at the Teatro San Carlo in Lisbon as Amelia in Un Ballo in Maschera. In 1911, she performed at the Teatro Verdi in Naples, singing the role of Elvira in Ernani. In 1912, she had great success at La Scala, singing in Verdi’s Don Carlo. In 1920, she appeared at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo as Charlotte in Massenet’s Werther. She retired from the stage in 1922. Her husband was the famous tenor Bindo Gasperini.
