Description
LINDA MICUCCI-BETTI (ROME, ITALY 1877 – ? 1933)
She received her musical education in her hometown of Rome, initially studying cello under Professor Forino at the Liceo Musicale. Later, she pursued vocal training privately with Attilio Ugolini and Senatore Sparapani in Rome. Her operatic debut came in 1897 at the Teatro Nazionale in Rome, where she performed the role of Santuzza in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana.
In 1899, performing under the name Teodolinda Micucci, she appeared at the Teatro Verdi in Pisa in productions of Aida and Faust. Her debut at Teatro alla Scala followed in 1903, where she took on roles in Asrael, Un ballo in maschera, and Luisa Miller. She returned to La Scala in 1908, receiving acclaim as the Vestale in Spontini’s La Vestale and as Maddalena in Giordano’s Andrea Chénier. Her portrayal of the Vestale was particularly notable during La Scala’s guest performance at the Grand Opéra in Paris in 1909.
Throughout her career, she graced the stages of numerous renowned theaters, including the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, Teatro Costanzi in Rome, Teatro Giglio in Lucca, Teatro Regio in Parma, Teatro Fenice in Venice, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Dal Verme in Milan, Teatro Real in Madrid, Teatro Municipale in Odessa, Politeama Argentino in Buenos Aires, and the Politeama in Montevideo.
She was married to the tenor Luigi Betti, who was active primarily in Central and South America, though little is known about his career or the exact date of his death (circa 1903).
