Description
ARISTODEMO GIORGINI (NAPLES, 30 JUNE, 1879 – NAPLES, 19 JANUARY, 1937)
He studied at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and with Massimo Perilli in Naples. He made his debut in 1903, and by 1904, he had already appeared at La Scala as Ernesto in Don Pasquale. He enjoyed a significant career in leading Italian theatres; in 1910, he sang with great success at La Scala as Elvino in La Sonnambula, partnering with Rosina Storchio.
In 1905, he made his debut at Covent Garden as the Duke in Rigoletto and as Rodolfo in La Bohème. In 1907, he performed at the Teatro Regio in Parma in Mascagni’s Amico Fritz and sang as Rodolfo at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo during the 1908-09 season. That same year, he appeared at the Teatro Politeama in Buenos Aires, and in 1910, he guest-starred at the Monte Carlo Opera, singing Elvino in Bellini’s La Sonnambula and Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
He appeared in leading Italian opera houses in Genoa, Naples, Florence, and Trieste and sang Verdi’s Requiem at La Scala in 1913. His successful guest performances included the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Teatro San Carlo in Lisbon, and various opera houses in Warsaw and Russia, including Sergei Zimin’s opera.
From 1912 to 1914, he was engaged by the Chicago Opera, where he sang roles such as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni and other lyrical tenor parts in the Italian repertoire. In 1920, he performed at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan in Boito’s Mefistofele and went on a concert tour through Belgium and Holland in 1923. He returned to the Vienna State Opera as a guest in 1921.
He continued performing until 1930 and then transitioned to a career as a pedagogue in Naples.
