GINO BONELLI (PIACENZA, MARCH 28, 1917 – PIACENZA, DECEMBER 31, 1997)

Son of choristers, he studied at the Giuseppe Nicolini Conservatory of Piacenza under Francesco Merli. After two years, he went to Milan, where he continued his education.

In 1941, he appeared at the opera houses of Asti and Novi Ligure. In 1943, in Foggia, he sang in Tosca. In 1945, he appeared in La Bohème at the Teatro Municipale in Piacenza, where he returned in 1947 to perform in Madama Butterfly.

That same year, he made successful guest appearances in Rijeka, Pula, Zagreb, and Belgrade. Returning to Italy in 1949, he performed in Piacenza (Teatro all’aperto Colombaia, Tosca), Florence (Teatro Municipale, Madama Butterfly), Catania (Lucia di Lammermoor), and Bergamo.

In 1950, he made guest appearances in Asti, Marseille, Lyon, and at La Scala (La Traviata and Oberto). In 1952, he sang in Florence (Teatro della Pergola), Piacenza (Teatro Municipale, La Bohème), and Codogno (Teatro Sociale), and then went to South America, spending two years in Peru and Argentina.

In 1957, he was active in Yugoslavia, Austria, and many Eastern European countries. In his hometown, he returned several times to sing at the Teatro Municipale. He remained in Yugoslavia until 1973, when he ended his career.

Returning to Piacenza in 1974, he devoted himself to painting and teaching singing.
