GINO MARTINEZ-PATTI (PARMA, 1866 – ROME, 1925)

He was of Spanish origin. During his career, he was considered one of the leading heroic tenors in Italy. He appeared with success not only in Italy but also in South America. In 1906, he traveled around North America with the Lombardi Opera Company; during this tour, he created the role of Chopin in the opera Chopin by G. Orefice for American audiences and also appeared as Don José in Carmen and as Rodolfo in La Bohème. In 1907, he sang at the Paleis voor Volksvlijt in Amsterdam, where he also performed the role of Herod in the premiere of Salome (by Richard Strauss, performed in Italian) under the composer’s direction. He later lived in Rome.
