Description

NICOLA FASCIOLO (NOVI LIGURE, 1868 – TORIN, 1945)

He studied piano and organ, then later voice, in Turin. He never performed on opera stages and appeared only in concerts. He made a significant impression as a soloist in the oratorios of the priest and composer Lorenzo Perosi. Alongside mezzo-soprano Chiarina Fino-Savio and baritone Giuseppe Kaschmann, he was considered one of the leading interpreters of Perosi’s works. He sang in numerous churches across Italy and also appeared at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, and other Italian venues, performing oratorios.

In 1902, he achieved particular success when he performed the tenor part in Perosi’s Risurrezione di Cristo at the Cathedral of Siena. In December 1902, he sang in the Italian premiere of Edgar Tinel’s oratorio San Francesco in Milan and in Florence, he performed Maria al Golgota by Antonio Sonzogno alongside Guerrina Fabbri. In 1912, he appeared at the Teatro Regio in Parma in the oratorio Judith by Arnaldo Furlotti. In 1904, together with soprano Irma Monti-Baldini and baritone Giuseppe Kaschmann, he performed in Warsaw in Perosi’s oratorio Il Giudizio Universale.

In 1919, he embarked on a major concert tour of the USA and Canada as a soloist with the Società Polifonica Romana. From 1900 to 1940, he served as the soloist for the Royal Household and the Cathedral in Turin.
