Description

PIETRO LARA (NAPLES, 1874 – ? 1940)

He was born in Naples in 1874. Before his debut as an opera singer, he worked as a conductor at the Piccinni Theatre in Bari and the Curci Theatre in Barletta. His voice often drew praise when he sang at the piano for other singers, prompting serious encouragement to pursue a singing career. He studied for two years at the Naples Conservatory and made his debut in 1893 at the Teatro Bellini in La Traviata. His reputation quickly grew, marking him as one of Italy’s most promising young tenors. He became the leading tenor of Mme. Sembrich’s Opera Company and, in 1901, performed with them in San Francisco and Berlin. In 1903, he joined the Associazione Teatrale Giuseppe Verdi, representing many prominent opera singers. His career took him across Italy and to international stages in Berlin, Nice, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, Amsterdam, and Lisbon. After retiring, he devoted himself to teaching singing.
