Victor Louis Camille Peault, known by his stage name Cazette, had a tragic yet notable career. He studied singing in Paris with the renowned Albert Salèza, which prepared him for a promising future on stage. He made his operatic debut in 1919 at the Opéra-Comique, playing the role of Le Noctambule in Gustave Charpentier’s Louise. Shortly after, he took on his first major role as Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, impressing audiences with his performance.

In 1922, Cazette achieved one of his most successful roles as Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at the Opéra-Comique, further establishing himself as a talented tenor. Unfortunately, his career and life were cut short in a tragic accident. The initial report suggested he died of tetanus following an injury. However, it was later revealed that during a performance, he was accidentally wounded by a trident held by his colleague, the baritone André Baugé. The injury led to a tetanus infection, and within days, Cazette succumbed to the illness.
