LYDIA LINDGREN-QUERZÉ (SOPRANO) (SVENSBYN, 1884 – NEW YORK, 1974)

 

 

 

 

Lindgren was born in Svensbyn, where her mother worked as a teacher. Her father was musical, though he had no opportunity to develop his talents. After her mother’s death in 1894, Lindgren left home at the age of fifteen. She studied singing in Stockholm, in Paris, at the Geneva Conservatory of Music, and in Berlin with Gustav Bergman (later director of the Stockholm Opera). She toured Europe and the United States, appearing in works such as Die Walküre, Faust, and The Tales of Hoffmann.

During the 1920s and 1930s, she was married to the Italian tenor Raoul Querez. She lived in New York for more than forty years.
