REGINA PINKERT (REGINA PINKIERTÓWNA) (WARSAW, 15 JUNE, 1866 – MILAN, 28 MAY, 1931)
She made her debut after studying in Poland in 1886 at the Warsaw Opera Theatre as Marguerite de Valois in Meyerbeer’s Gli Ugonotti. In 1889, she went to Italy to study with Italian pedagogues. From 1892, Pinkert enjoyed a successful stage career in Italy. In 1892, she sang in Milan; in 1893, 1896, and 1906, she performed at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome; from 1899 to 1903, she was engaged at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples; and in 1895, she sang at the Teatro Regio in Turin. In 1897, she had great success at La Scala as Elvira in Bellini’s I Puritani, partnering with Alessandro Bonci, and on April 10, 1897, she sang in the premiere of Franchetti’s Il signor di Pourceaugnac.
In 1901, she achieved another major success at La Scala as Adina in L’elisir d’amore, performing alongside Enrico Caruso. In South America, she appeared in 1897 at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. She also guested at the Monte Carlo Opera Theatre in 1895, 1898, and from 1901 to 1902. In 1894, she sang at the Teatro Real in Madrid, in 1902 at the Warsaw Opera Theatre, in 1904 at the German Theatre in Prague, and at the Dresden Court Opera. During the 1906-07 season, she performed at the Lviv Opera House. She also appeared in Paris and at the Teatro San Carlo in Lisbon as a guest artist.
In 1901, Pinkert sang the mad scene from Amleto by request of the widow of composer Ambroise Thomas in a charity concert in Paris. In 1906, she performed at the opening night of the Manhattan Opera House in New York as Elvira in I Puritani. Later, she lived in Milan, where she worked as a pedagogue.
