VERA DE LUCE (VERA DE LUTZE) (LUBLIN, 27 APRIL, 1879 – MOSCOW, 4 OCTOBER, 1977)
She was born in Lublin, near Warsaw. She studied with her mother, the opera singer Sofia Konarskaya. In 1902, she made her opera debut in Warsaw with great success. In the following years, she made guest appearances not only in Warsaw but also in Italy, performing under the name Vera de Luza.
In 1907, she was engaged by S. Zimin’s private opera house in Moscow, where she debuted in Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. She performed at this opera house until 1913 and subsequently gave guest performances at various opera houses across Russia, particularly in Odessa and Kharkov.
Her extensive repertoire included leading roles such as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Juliette in Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, Mimì in La Bohème, and Antonida in Glinka’s A Life for the Tsar. She retired from the stage in 1918.
In 1934, she began teaching at the Gnessin State Musical College in Moscow.
