ROBERT LORTAT (PARIS, FRANCE SEPTEMBER 12, 1885 – PARIS, FRANCE MAY 1938)
He studied at the Paris Conservatoire under Diémer and won multiple prizes during his time there. He debuted in Paris in 1910 and later toured Germany. Lortat served in World War I, but was wounded and discharged. He returned to performing and made his U.S. debut in 1916. Although he played music of many composers, Lortat’s recordings, made in the late 1920s, are devoted entirely to Chopin.
