MICHAEL NASTA (ROMANIA, 1879 – ?)

He initially studied philology in Bucharest, where he also received his first vocal training and began performing as a concert singer in 1902. He later moved to Vienna to continue his education, earning a doctorate while simultaneously pursuing advanced vocal studies.

In 1907, he made his operatic debut at the Municipal Theatre of Troppau (Opava), where he remained until 1909. From 1910 to 1912, he was engaged by the Opera House in Mährisch-Ostrau (Ostrava), followed by a season at the Vienna Court Opera in 1913–1914. During World War I, he served as a soldier from 1914 to 1915.

After the war, he resumed his career, performing at the Vienna Volksoper in 1915–1916 and the Opera House in Graz from 1916 to 1918. He joined the Municipal Theatre in Hamburg from 1918 to 1921, where he notably sang the role of Rinuccio in the German premiere of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi in 1921.

Following this, he embarked on guest engagements and performed during the 1925–1926 season at the German Theatre in Brünn (Brno) and during the 1927–1929 seasons at the Hamburg Volksoper. He was engaged by the Municipal Theatre of Bremen in 1930–1931 and returned to the Hamburg Volksoper for the 1932–1933 season.

Until 1934, he continued to make guest appearances at prominent German opera houses, including the Dresden Court Opera and the opera houses of Cologne and Wroclaw. After retiring from the stage, he became a singing teacher in Hamburg.
