ALEXANDER BRAGIN (KIEV PROVINCE, 25, 6 (15) or 3 (15) OCTOBER, 1881 – MOSCOW, 23 NOVEMBER, 1955)

 

 

 

 

The singer’s real surname was Braginsky. He initially studied singing privately with Mikhail Medvedev and then, from 1896 to 1901, at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory under S. Gabel and I. Tartakov. He also pursued additional studies abroad between 1904 and 1913.

Braginsky made his debut in 1900 at the National Opera House of Ukraine as Valentin in Gounod’s Faust. From 1905 to 1908, he was a soloist at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, and during the 1908-1909 season, he performed at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. He returned to the Mariinsky Theatre from 1909 to 1911. From 1911 to 1915, he performed in operettas in St. Petersburg while continuing to make guest appearances in various Russian cities starting in 1914.

In the 1922-1923 season, Braginsky sang in Berlin and, from 1924 to 1928, performed at different opera houses in Germany. From 1930 onward, he dedicated himself to teaching, working in Odessa, Moscow, Frunze, Kiev, Tashkent, and Baku.
