JEAN (IWAN) IWANZOFF (RUSSIA, 1880 – ?)
He studied singing in St. Petersburg under N. Spasski, who trained him as a bass. He also took vocal lessons from R. Nuvel-Nordi. From 1912 to 1916, he sang at the St. Petersburg Musical Drama and the National House (1913–1918). He also appeared in Moscow.
In 1919, Iwanzoff moved to Germany and, during the 1920s, made guest appearances in Paris (Grand Opera, 1921), Berlin, Madrid, Barcelona (1921, 1922), several Italian cities, Washington, D.C., and New York.
In the 1930s, Iwanzoff lived in the United States, where he began singing successfully as a tenor, notably in The Queen of Spades by P. Tchaikovsky and other operas.
