YAKOV SLOBODKIN (ROSTOV-ON-DON, RUSSIA, 11. 08. 1920 – MOSCOW, RUSSIA, 25. 01. 2009)

 

 

 

 

He has graduated The Moscow Chaikovsky`s Conservatoire under prof. S. Kozoloupov and prof. M. Yampolskiy’s guidance. One of the winners of International Competition of Performers in Prague (1950). Since 1941 until 1995 was a soloist of a Moscow State Philharmony. Y. Sibelius and P. Vladigerov have dedicated their pieces for the cello to Y. Slobodkin. Y. Slobodkin is one of creators of Tchaikovsky`s Quartet together with his colleages Y. Sitkovetsky, A. Sharoyev, R. Barshay. This quartet was unique in the history of International musical life: during the tours of the quartet besides performing of the quartet programs, each performer played also as a soloist. Y.Slobodkin played repeatedly as a soloist with the best orchestras all over the world. As a chamber musician he played together with A. Goldenweiser, H. Neuhaus. L. Kogan, E. Gilels, S. Richter, Y. Fliyer, M. Yudina, G. Grinzburg and many other distinguished performers. He played on the instrument F. Ruggieri 1696 year, the body of this cello is one of the biggest in the world, and it has the unique timbre.
